Michela L Mitchell
Dr Michela Mitchell is based at the Museum of Tropical Museum (Queensland Museum Network) in Townsville. She is the cnidarian collection manager and a postdoctoral research assistant at James Cook University. Michela recently returned from her Churchill Trust Fellowship (2020) examining international venom bioapplication discovery strategies. Churchill Fellowship travelled involved in-house visits to international museums and for current collection management of venomous animals, leading venom biotechnology companies and venom research institutes.
Michela is a sea anemone taxonomist and venom research specialist. One of her passions is to open collections up to a broader range of research opportunities outside of biogeography and taxonomy. This requires a revision of how collections are preserved and managed to ensure a more diverse range of research techniques can be employed.
